Game Thread: New Orleans must find way to contain Utah’s deadly perimeter attack

Can the Pelicans avoid a season sweep?

The New Orleans Pelicans couldn’t have a bigger test tonight. The Utah Jazz are dominating opponents on both ends of the floor, proving to the rest of the NBA that they’re the team to beat in the first half of this unusual 72-game season.

As the Pelicans witnessed in January, the Jazz not only defend well but can score with the best of them, relying on the league’s deadliest three-point attack. Utah shoots (42.8 3PA) and makes more threes (16.9 3PM) than any other team, knocking them down at the third-best rate in the league (39.6 3PT%).

Against New Orleans, Utah made 21 threes in a 118-102 win and then 17 triples a few nights later in another victory (129-118). If the Pelicans want to improve their odds of not getting swept in the season series, they’re going to have to do a lot of things well Monday night but perhaps none are more important than limiting the Jazz from beyond the arc.
