New Orleans Pelicans select Simba in SB Nation NBA Disney Draft

The young cubs of Zion Williamson, Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram are eager to grow. Nothing could prove more beneficial than remarkable guidance.

Ahead of the NBA restarting the 2019-20 season inside Disney World, the SB Nation sites representing the 22 teams soon headed to the bubble partook in the most creative of drafts: selecting an original Disney character that could be of great assistance and push a team to unimaginable heights.

Many managers elected to chase certain extraordinary gifts; however, The Bird Writes decided on a more conventional route and fill the vacuum of unparalleled leadership. With possessing the best young, electric trio in the game of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson and a dominant starting lineup that has spent only 230 minutes across 17 games together, the New Orleans Pelicans have a pressing need for more experience.

While Jrue Holiday, Derrick Favors and JJ Redick are a nice collection of veterans, none have an NBA championship ring sitting at home. In addition, the upcoming slate of contests will present an unprecedented challenge. There will be no crowds to create much needed momentum for players. The basketball courts at ESPN’s Wide World of Sports Complex will be unfamiliar terrain. And as we’ve learned in recent days, the Pelicans will be without at least two key figures (Jeff Bzdelik and Jamelle McMillan) on Alvin Gentry’s coaching staff.

Thus, enter Simba, a fierce and dependable leader who emerged victorious from one of the most epic battles in history!

With the coronavirus pandemic enveloping the campus, the fight for social justice at the forefront of all minds and players without their favorite companions until after the conclusion of the first round of the playoffs, remaining focused on the task at hand will never be more problematic.

“Danger? Ha, I walk on the wild side. I laugh in the face of danger!”

Simba can set a clear vision for his Pelican teammates. He is not only intelligent, strong-willed and wise, he is also kind-hearted and understanding. No matter the situation, the Lion King will be sure to have the right answer.

Which teams tend to enjoy the most playoff success? The ones led by proven winners. Zion will one day be crowned a king in this league, but he only has 19 games under his belt. So, who better to give him a few pointers than another great competitor whose roar is the loudest of all big cats.
