Game 63: New Orleans Pelicans look to pull themselves back up on their feet against Miami Heat

Can they keep their postseason dream alive?

The Pelicans must be hoping their matchup against the Heat winds up a game of firsts tonight inside the Smoothie King Center.

  • Their first win against Miami on the season.
  • Their first win for the month of March.
  • Zion Williamson notches his 14th straight 20+ point game — the first time that’s happened in the NBA since the 2010-11 season courtesy of Blake Griffin.

In their first meeting back in November, New Orleans didn’t have the use of Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, Zion Williamson, JJ Redick and Josh Hart against the Miami. They also lost Derrick Favors to back spasms in the first half. Jrue Holiday was the only regular to finish that game so not coincidentally they lost by 15 points.

The best takeaway from that defeat was actually the play of several rookies not standing 6’7 and weighing 280+ pounds. Nickeil Alexander-Walker (27 points, six threes, four rebounds) and Jaxson Hayes (12 points, three rebounds, two blocks) — remember those guys? — impressed in moments. Both players will probably not get off the bench for much if any run tonight, but if the Pelicans go on to lose their 4th straight, we’re likely not far away on the schedule from seeing these two stallions.
