As Preston’s extensive preview details, the Rockets went with a super small lineup — starting PJ Tucker at center with Clint Capela out — against the Dallas Mavericks in their last game and won. The Rockets had unveiled the Tuckwagon against the Utah Jazz this past Monday, with Capela, Russell Westbrook and James Harden all out — and won as well.
“It can work against anybody because we have the playmakers to do it,” Rockets guard Eric Gordon said. “When you got a lot of guys that can play-make, that can score and make the pass to the next play for someone, it should make the game easier.”
The Rockets think they’ve stumbled upon something, but it’s impossible to imagine them having too much success against Zion Williamson and Derrick Favors, right?
New Orleans starting lineup is quite versatile and has absolutely shut-down opponents (90.2 Defensive Rating). They’ve also been the best offensive rebounding team since Zion’s first game on January 22nd, and the Pelicans have averaged 15.4 second-chance points during that time frame.
{Cue evil laugh.} Good luck, Eric Gordon.
Geaux Pels!
