The New Orleans Pelicans have done it — Zion Williamson will soon be coming to your favorite city!
With just a meager 6.0% chance to grab the top spot, the Pelicans did the unthinkable and accomplished the amazing feat. They jumped ahead of six teams, and for just the second time in franchise history, the Pelicans will pick first overall in an NBA draft.
As most know, Anthony Davis landed in New Orleans’ lap back in 2012, but unfortunately, the franchise was only able to muster two playoff trips in the first seven years of his career. With Davis asking for a trade out of town back in January, many believed the Pelicans future was cloudy at best.
In one fell swoop, things couldn’t be brighter and the ever-bubbly Alvin Gentry couldn’t hide his excitement upon learning the news.
Zach Lowe on what happened when the Pelicans combination came up in the NBA Draft Lottery room: "Alvin Gentry may have let out an expletive and just starting running around and high-fiving everyone."

The rest of the 2019 NBA Draft Lottery results also produced several other surprises. The Grizzlies moved up from the 8th spot to 2nd, the Knicks grabbed the 3rd slot, and the Lakers jumped all the way up from 11th to 4th.

Can Los Angeles tempt New Orleans with another trade package for Anthony Davis, this time including the 4th overall pick from the 2019 Draft? Or, might Davis reconsider his future and decide to stay on with a team that will field Jrue Holiday and Zion Williamson?!?
Stay tuned!!!
