Following the 115-112 loss to the New Orleans Pelicans this past Monday, Rudy Gobert complained about the Utah Jazz lacking the requisite energy.
Rudy Gobert said the Jazz didn't have it defensively: "From the beginning of the game, I feel like we didn’t have enough energy, and they just felt good. They’re a very talented team … they’ve been playing well. And we gave them a lot of confidence early." pic.twitter.com/MSqf6tH32A— Eric Walden (@tribjazz) March 5, 2019
Considering the Pelicans managed only 38 points in the first 18 minutes of the contest, Gobert’s argument is a curious one. Utah led by as many as 17 points and were primed to run away with the game before halftime, but as we know, they didn’t. Maybe they put their guard and relaxed too much?
Regardless of the reasoning, expect for the Jazz to to show greater focus and effort tonight in the Smoothie King Center. They’re going to play like they let one get away, especially since they were coming off big wins against the Bucks, Nuggets and Clippers on their schedule.
Dairis Bertans will not make his debut yet and Jahlil Okafor is a game-decision decision per Alvin Gentry a few minutes ago.
