The New Orleans Pelicans could be saying goodbye to Dirk Nowitzki tonight in their regular season finale against the Dallas Mavericks.
Although he hasn’t formally announced his retirement, many expect the 21-year veteran to call it quits sometime after the end of this regular season. If he does, he’ll likely wrap up his career sixth on the all-time scoring list, needing just four more points to surpass the great Wilt Chamberlain.
In addition to the German wunderkind trying to rewrite the books, Elfrid Payton has a chance to join a list just four players long if he notches a fifth straight triple-double.
Elfrid Payton enters tonight's game at DAL 1 of 8 players in #NBA history w/ 4 straight triple-doubles...Another triple-double tonight would make him the 5th player in league history with 5 straight, joining Russell Westbrook, Oscar Robertson, Wilt Chamberlain and Michael Jordan.

Michael Jordan? Oscar Robertson? Russell Westbrook? This would mark quite the achievement for a 25-year-old player who has yet to fully cement himself in the league.
So, if you thought there’s nothing left to watch for as the Pelicans sit on the verge of officially being eliminated from the 2019 playoff race, think again!
