Game 56: Anthony Davis starting for New Orleans Pelicans against Minnesota Timberwolves

New, comments

Newcomer’s Jason Smith and Stanley Johnson expected to be in uniform.

All of the lights and cameras will be focused on Anthony Davis in his first game back since making that fateful trade request back on January 28 — which seems a lifetime ago, doesn’t it? Alvin Gentry informed media moments ago that Davis will be in the starting lineup, but do not expect him to play extended minutes. Rather the plan is for AD to receive seven-minute stretches of run at a time.

How will he respond? Will he be the same dynamic AD or will the nerves get to him? Will he be more aggressive, or as my guess, more passive and allow his teammates to shine a little brighter? Most of all, how will the crowd react to him in the intros and then immediately following an amazing play or two? So many questions!!

In addition to the Davis news, Gentry let it be known that Jason Smith and Stanley Johnson will both be in uniform, but it’s unclear if they’ll see any time considering they both arrived earlier in the day and have spent close to no time with the coaching staff.

Jahlil Okafor, who was questionable with an ankle injury, is not expected to play.
