Game 23: Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram on tap for late Saturday brunch viewing as Pelicans face Mavericks

Maybe an unusual starting time can snap the seven-game losing streak?

Perhaps an unusual 1:00 p.m. Saturday tip-off might be the charm that sees the New Orleans Pelicans find the win column again. Seriously, at this point, anything is worth a shot in the dark, especially when facing the team currently in second place in the Western Conference.

We’ve written plenty on the amazing play of Luka Doncic this season as well as the Pelicans inconsistencies of putting it together over the course of a full 48 minutes so there’s no need to travel down those two roads again. Thus, let’s reiterate just how well both Lonzo Ball and Jaxson Hayes played against the Suns, courtesy of our very own David Grubb.

Lonzo Ball broke out of an extended slump with a season-high 20 points, 11 assists, six rebounds, three steals, and two blocks, posting his second double-double as a member of the Pelicans. He attacked the rim, even taking and making four free throws (both season highs). His six made field goals tied his season-high, and his .667 shooting percentage was a season’s best as well.

The rapidly improving Jaxson Hayes continues to be just that. Hayes scored 17 points, just two off from his season-high, and blocked a season-high five shots. He becomes the third-youngest player in NBA history to put up that stat line, trailing only LeBron James and former Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum.

It’s probably smarter to root for Ball and Hayes following up their performances from two nights ago with another solid game then the Pelicans grabbing a victory so that’s what I’ll be secretly hoping for. How about you?
