The NBA Awards Show will take place tonight and the two-hour event will air on TNT starting at 8:00 p.m. Central. Winners will be announced for numerous honors including the Most Valuable Player, Defensive Player of the Year, Most Improved Player, 6th Man of the Year and Rookie of the Year.

Over a month ago, Anthony Davis was nominated as a finalist for the MVP and DPOY awards; however, the expectation was that he would have a difficult time winning either award. James Harden and LeBron James had built stronger MVP cases and Rudy Gobert was widely acknowledged to have the inside track on Davis for DPOY.

Following the announcements of the All-NBA teams, this belief remained the same. James and Harden were unanimously selected to the 2017-18 All-NBA First Team while Davis received 96 out of a possible 100 votes. Gobert received the most points (193) for the 2017-18 NBA All-Defensive First Team as Davis finished with 163 points. In addition, Gobert received 94 First Team votes to Davis’ 73.

The last time the leading NBA All-Defensive First Team points getter failed to win the Defensive Player of the Year occurred after the 2012-13 season. Tony Allen received the most votes to headline the 2012-13 NBA All-Defensive First Team, but Marc Gasol was named the DPOY winner.
