The Bird Calls Podcast Ep. 84: The Nikola Mirotic Taking Numbers (#3) and Names

Kumar of Bourbon Street Shots joins Preston and I to discuss the parts, grade the moves and speculate on the future moves — as well as potential rotations.

NBA: Preseason-Chicago Bulls at New Orleans Pelicans Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

The sometimes vilified Dell Demps is the toast of the town for once again committing robbery on the cusp of the trade deadline. Hear just how good we think the Nikola Mirotic acquisition is for the New Orleans Pelicans.

But before we dive in, we get Kumar’s take on the Boogie injury — how it affected him personally as well as the Pelicans, and how big of a moment that was in New Orleans’ sports.

As we analyze the trade pieces Kumar, Preston and I look into the strangest portion of the trade — the protections applied to the 2018 1st round pick going to the Bulls — and how that affects Dell’s ability to make other moves this season and until that pick is conveyed.

Preston also presses Kumar and I on the fit of the buyout-prized Moose. How does Greg Monroe fit with Anthony Davis and Nikola Mirotic? What kind of lineups should we expect? Are the other centers that are currently on or are rumored to be joining the buyout market better fits? Are they even feasible?

We answer all of this and more — including what a proper welcome back for Jameer Nelson be should he ever return to the Smoothie King Center to face the Pels. We also, suggest a future move that we all agree on.
