The Bird Calls Podcast Ep. 3-5: More Jrue Holiday contract discussion, (too early) estimates of Pelicans postseason odds and summer league chatter

New, comment

It’s a busy time of the year so we’ve got three guests this week to help us break it all down!

Jrue Holiday has officially signed with the New Orleans Pelicans, but many are still dismayed by the sum of his contract total. In addition, where does the team now rank in the hierarchy of the Western Conference? Listen to Preston and this week’s guests, Christian Rivas of 16 Wins a Ring and Bleacher Report’s Dan Favale, give their reasons on why the doubters should step away from the ledge because it’s not as bleak as it may seem.

With a lot of movement in free agency thus far, both guests also make some early predictions on their respective podcasts and discuss how they see the Western Conference playoff seedings playing out. The Pelicans odds could boil down to how well the DeMarcus Cousins and Anthony Davis experiment unfolds.

Some additional topics of note include all the big free agent signings, the Chris Paul, Gordon Hayward, Jimmy Butler trades, and an exclusive look at the Los Angeles Lakers, a rebuilding team this year. Things could get very interested the following season if Paul George decides to follow his heart and indeed go home. Don’t be surprised if L.A. soon poses a threat to New Orleans postseason chances as Lonzo Ball and Brandon Ingram develop further and Brook Lopez flourishes in California.

Lastly, with summer league games in full swing, Philip Rossman Reich of Locked on Magic is here to tell us what to expect in Las Vegas as well as breakdown what he saw at the games held in Orlando.

Enjoy!
