2017 NBA Free Agency: Nick Young signs with Warriors, could CJ Miles be Pelicans next target?

New Orleans natives are getting restless!

The New Orleans Pelicans can cross off Nick Young from their wish list because he has agreed to go ring-chasing with the Golden State Warriors.

If I had to hazard a guess, Dell Demps either didn’t offer him enough of the MLE, the number of contract years, or both. The Pelicans could have tempted Swaggy P with a 4-year deal surpassing $36 million.

Welp, it’s onto the next target, and because speculation is fun, maybe that player is C.J. Miles?

Outside of Darren Wolfson’s reports, Miles’ name has barely been mentioned throughout this free agency period. Yesterday, he was quietly linked to the Heat, Kings and Hawks, as well as the Timberwolves, but perhaps New Orleans has entered the fray upon losing their bid for Young?

C.J. Miles, who is 30 years old, is fresh off one of his most potent campaigns. For the first time in his career, he surpassed the 40% barrier from three-point range. Having shot 42.6% from deep on catch-and-shoots makes him an interesting option, but a 29.7% from the same parts of the floor on pull-ups and a meager 1.2 drives per 23.4 minutes, indicates a largely one dimensional scorer.

Besides Miles, don’t forget the Jamal Crawford news from yesterday, too.

Sources informed ESPN that Crawford would seek a buyout and the Warriors would be the front-runners for his services if they still possessed the taxpayer midlevel exception of $5.2 million. Crawford has two years and $29 million remaining on his contract, but the final year is partially guaranteed. He has made nearly $135 million over his 17-year career.

As of now, though, Atlanta would not be willing to facilitate a buyout unless Crawford gives back a significant portion of his salary, sources say. The Cleveland Cavaliers, San Antonio Spurs, New Orleans Pelicans and Milwaukee Bucks have had conversations about the possibility of acquiring Crawford, league sources say.

Maybe two Crawfords on the same roster is destiny? {Gulp.} If you were the Pelicans, who would you target for perimeter shooting in free agency at this point?
