The first few hours of free agency for the New Orleans Pelicans went as expected — no resolution was reached on the future of Jrue Holiday.
In case you missed it, Ramona Shelburne mentioned earlier on Friday that Holiday’s plan all along was to listen to the Pelicans front office pitch and then sleep on his decision, regardless of the size of his offer.
After mtg with Pels, Holiday's plan is to sleep on his decision tonight. If he wants to hear other pitches meetings will be set in LA later https://t.co/q0bkpEtywn— Ramona Shelburne (@ramonashelburne) June 30, 2017
Well, it appears Holiday is sticking to his original arrangement even though New Orleans reportedly made a large offer. According to Brian Windhorst on ESPN2’s Free Agency Special of The Jump, Holiday received a “massive contract offer” from the Pelicans. Interestingly, the report sounded awfully similar to a claim Windhorst made over a week ago on the Lowe Post.
Hearing Jrue Holiday is giving consideration to signing with the Indiana Pacers. He has an offer from the New Orleans Pelicans— Tony Jones (@tribjazz) July 1, 2017
If Jrue Holiday doesn't reach deal with Pelicans in their meeting in wee hours, he has agreed to meet with Knicks, per source.— Marc Berman (@NYPost_Berman) July 1, 2017
Will Jrue Holiday announce sometime later on Saturday that he’s agreed to the New Orleans Pelicans offer or will he announce meetings with the Knicks, Pacers or perhaps some other unbeknownst team?
It’s difficult to say for sure, but following the whirlwind of activity over the last few days and Chris Paul, Jeff Teague, Ricky Rubio and Patty Mills all cementing their immediate futures, every minute Holiday waits to decide, he loses a little more leverage and the Pelicans watch another name come off the board.
