Anthony Davis was named to the 2017 NBA All-Defensive Second Team earlier today.

During the 2016-17 season, Davis tallied 167 blocks, good for third in the league as he finished behind only Rudy Gobert and Myles Turner. His 94 steals was the 28th highest total but third among all big men, trailing just Andre Drummond and DeMarcus Cousins.

According to the ESPN’s defensive real plus minus statistic, Davis posted the sixth highest DRPM (3.90).

Also earning votes in the 2017 defensive team nominations was Jrue Holiday who garnered five nods. Listed below are all the winners and those players who received votes.

This is the second time Anthony Davis has been voted to an NBA All-Defensive Second team (2015) in his career, but this year’s award makes more sense considering how well the Pelicans played defensively as a team. The 2017 team finished with the ninth best defensive rating in the league while the 2015 squad ranked in the bottom third of the league, coming in 22nd that season.
