Another day, another team is known to be targeting Jrue Holiday in next month’s free agency period.
According to Darren Wolfson on The Scoop, the Minnesota Timberwolves are not looking at point guards in next week’s draft at their 7th overall pick. Instead, they have focused their attention on adding a veteran at the position, specifically either Holiday, Jeff Teague or George Hill.
Wolfson believes Holiday may sit at the top of the Wolves wish list because he is not only the youngest player of the trio but perhaps the likeliest to change teams. However, he does acknowledge their front office would have to open their wallet and potentially offer a maximum type of contract — something the Wolves have been reluctant to do since the arrival of Tom Thibodeau.
Last July, Minnesota had zeroed in on Courtney Lee, Luol Deng and Joakim Noah, yet all of their offers wound up on the low side to attract anyone of the group. In addition, the Wolves still have Ricky Rubio on the roster and Kris Dunn waiting in the wings. The industry buzz is Rubio would need to be moved first before the Wolves give serious chase to an available PG anyways, and at this time, Wolfson admits he doesn’t see an obvious deal.
The Sacramento Kings like Rubio but are reportedly enamored with De’Aaron Fox in the draft and have set their sights on him. Don’t forget we’ve already witnessed what Vivek Randive wants, Vivek Randive gets with Buddy Hield. The Knicks also have genuine interest but a logical trade does not appear to exist.
Could the New Orleans Pelicans emerge as a potential suitor? Wolfson did state Minnesota is interested in picking up a second round pick in this year’s NBA Draft, and perhaps Thibodeau would entertain the idea of bringing back E’Twaun Moore or Solomon Hill in some trade package along with the Pelicans 40th overall selection.
Either way, realize we’re far from done concerning Jrue Holiday trade rumors!
