As expected, the New Orleans Pelicans must forfeit use of their 2017 first round pick during next month’s NBA draft.
With today’s lottery results failing to propel the Pelicans up inside the top 3 of the draft order, the 10th overall pick will convey to the Sacramento Kings and thus complete the trade for DeMarcus Cousins from last February.
Barring any new trades between now and the draft or Dell Demps purchasing any additional pick(s), New Orleans will only have to look forward to a second round pick.
The most recent Draft Express mock draft has Caleb Swanigan, a forward-center sophomore from Purdue, going to the Pelicans at the 40th overall selection. Meanwhile, nbadraft.net slots OG Anunoby, a forward from Indiana University, to New Orleans.
Expect a number of our articles here at The Bird Writes to concentrate on legitimate targets as well as note several wishlist players over the next month. Who knows, maybe there’s another Cheick Diallo, Malcolm Brogdon or another Caris LeVert waiting in the wings!
Here are your entire lottery results:

- Los Angeles Lakers
- Philadelphia 76ers via Sacramento Kings

- Sacramento Kings via Philadelphia 76ers
- Orlando Magic
- Minnesota Timberwolves
- New York Knicks
