The Bird Calls Podcast Ep. 66: Hard for Santa to reward Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins when they’re not winning

The Big Picture Boys talk about what it means to be naughty or nice.

NBA: Sacramento Kings at New Orleans Pelicans Stephen Lew-USA TODAY Sports

It’s that time of year, New Orleans Pelicans fans.

Travis and Trevor got back together for a Christmas miracle: a Big Picture Boys podcast!

The two talk about a throwaway loss to the Wizards, memorable losses to the Rockets and Nuggets and how comfortable (sitting by the fireside, cup of hot cocoa in hand) the fans should feel about the Pels’ playoff chances.

Trevor dissects a recent Adrian Wojnarowski article in ESPN detailing Anthony Davis’ desire to make the playoffs — the word “winning” came up 22 times. This season’s wins or losses might mean a long future of Pels playoff games, or a team blown up by disappointment.

Davis specifically mentions other peers of his, including Giannis Antetokounmpo, Kristaps Porzingis and Joel Embiid. Is he out for blood in upcoming matchups with them?

Will AD end up in Boston, as per every rumor on Twitter ever? Trevor sure hopes not.

Why is the team so bad defensively? I can’t figure it out.

Will Solomon Hill be a difference-maker when he comes back?

And, of course, what players (and coaches) will get a fancy new toy from Santa, and who will be left with nothing but coal?

Finally, we give quick takes on the 5-game slate coming Christmas day, Trevor insisting that most of my predictions are off base: Philly over the Knicks, Golden State over the Cavs, Boston over the Wizards (Trevor agrees here, folks!), Houston in a blowout against OKC and the Lakers in a close one to close out the night. What say you?
