The Bird Calls Podcast Ep. 39: A New Orleans Pelicans quick but dismal opening night recap

Go ahead and vent, but realize it’s just the first game of 82!

Travis Tate and I hosted yet another edition of The Bird Calls, a podcast dedicated to SB Nation’s The Bird Writes, but full disclosure: it was somewhat somber considering it involved recapping the Wednesday night debacle that was a 103-91 loss the Memphis Grizzlies.

A poor performance from Jrue Holiday, the lack of ball movement for three quarters, a bench missing in action and none other than 2017 2nd round pick Dillon Brooks (what?!?!) contributed to what ended as an utter disappointment for New Orleans Pelicans fans.

Despite the star tandem of Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins combining for 60 points, 28 rebounds and 8 blocks, an unnecessary number of turnovers (18), surprisingly outweighing a total of 15 in the assist department, limited New Orleans for most of the night.

The Big Picture Boys also shortly touch on Friday’s home opener against the Warriors and a laughable over/under, along with an early season thought process on who could be the first NBA head coach fired this season.

For nothing but exclusive content, recorded and produced for New Orleans Pelicans fans, take a listen. Don’t forget to subscribe, rate and share!
