The Bird Calls Podcast Ep. 36: Preseason, lineups, league MVP and more!

Trevor Ritchie joins Travis Tate with Preston Ellis out (DNP - Honeymoon) to talk preseason, wings and the league’s MVP

Well, with Preston Ellis, our fearless host of The Bird Calls podcast, out, which can be found on iTunes, Stitcher and probably other places, we marched on.

I, Travis Tate, attempted to host the show with Trevor Ritchie as our excellent expert. He and I talked preseason for this season’s Pels; what is there to take from games where we see Anthony Davis continue his MVP-level play but have to deal with two major injuries to presumed starters (Solo and Rondo)? What will happen at the 2 as Jrue Holiday, once removed from the lead guard position is now caught in limbo: will he play the 2 or the 1? Who is this team’s point guard? [Hot take answer here]. Does it matter if DeMarcus Cousins is the best playmaker we’ve got, this side of 6 weeks sans-Rondo?

Tony Allen. Our guy, but he’s Memphis’ long-time favorite. He’s going to have his number retired, the team already announced. The Pels do play in Memphis to open the year on October 18; might he start and really get the crowd riled up? MInd you, this podcast was recorded before the Pels dropped a laugher 142-101... one has to hope that game doesn’t mean anything.

Who’s your MVP? Kawhi Leonard is getting talk as a “solo superstar” compared to guys-with-teammates: Russell Westbrook, Kevin Durant, James Harden (how ‘bout those ‘12 Thunder, doe), AD(!). I’d like to quickly mention John Wall and Giannis Antetokounmpo before saying I think it’ll be Durant. Even worse, Trevor thinks it’ll be LeBron James. Ugh, we’re boring.
