Pelicans waive Reggie Williams, interested in Donatas Motiejunas

Williams was never a long term answer.

NBA: New Orleans Pelicans at Houston Rockets Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans announced this morning that they have waived swingman Reggie Williams. Williams appeared in just five games during his three week stay with the team. His best performance, a 17 point outburst against the Phoenix Suns, contributed greatly to the Pelicans pulling out a crucial victory back on December 11th.

The current roster now stands at 14 players, with Quincy Pondexter the only player on the injury report. 10-day contracts become available on January 5th. Shams Charania is reporting that New Orleans has interest in former Rockets big man Donatas Motiejunas. Motiejunas agreed to an offer sheet with the Brooklyn Nets which the Rockets matched. However, the Rockets and Motiejunas were unable to come to an agreement and Houston ultimately rescinded his restricted free agent rights.

Motiejunas was traded to the Detroit Pistons last season at the trade deadline before a back injury caused the Pistons to pull out. Motiejunas played just 37 games last season due to injury. New Orleans cannot offer much so any contract will have little downside for the Pelicans if they come to an agreement.
