The New Orleans Pelicans will square off against the Los Angeles Lakers in what will be both the teams first games of the 2016 Summer League. As the main draw of opening night, the game will be televised live on ESPN at 9:30 pm central time.
Obviously most of the attention will center on Brandon Ingram, the 2nd overall pick of the 2016 Draft, and Buddy Hield, the sixth overall pick. Also on the watch list for Pelicans fans will be Cheick Diallo, Larry Drew II and Nick Minnerath.
For the Lakers, Ivica Zubac, the 32nd pick of the draft and one ahead of Diallo, will be worth monitoring, and of course, D'Angelo Russell and Larry Nance Jr. will command plenty of attention.
Expect for the Pelicans to feel like the away team all night long as the crowd is already a sea of blue and gold an hour before the scheduled tip-off.
At this time, both Buddy Hield and Cheick Diallo have not been officially signed to NBA contracts as the Pelicans likely remain interested in keeping their cap space flexibility to help facilitate another roster move or two.
