2016 Summer League: New Orleans Pelicans vs. Miami Heat

Can Buddy Hield avoid another frigid first half?

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

Playoffs? Playoffs? The New Orleans Pelicans earned the 21st seed (no, seriously) and will face the Miami Heat (12th seed) this afternoon at 3:30 PM at the Thomas and Mack Center. That's the larger arena for those keeping up. The game will be televised on NBATV and will also be available on the ESPN app and WatchESPN. If they win, New Orleans will advance to the second round against an absolutely stacked Phoenix Suns roster.

Miami elected not to play Josh Richardson and Justise Winslow in Las Vegas and look for that to continue. Their attack is led by Briante Weber at point guard (he played for the Memphis Grizzlies some last year and is under contract with the Heat) and recent free agent signing Rodney McGruder. On the wing former summer Pelican Victor Rudd is also logging heavy minutes.

This should be a rather stiff test for the summer Pelicans; Buddy Hield in particular. While Weber and McGruder are mere end of bench players in the NBA at the summer league they are practically all-stars. Look to see if Hield can get out to a hotter start than his first three games.
