On Tuesday, the New Orleans Pelicans PR department announced Quincy Pondexter is joining Tyreke Evans on the injury report with a questionable designation. After having been listed as out all season, this news represents a step in the right direction as there is a good chance he'll be in uniform tomorrow when New Orleans hosts the Dallas Mavericks for their fourth and final meeting this regular season.
Prior to Christmas, Pondexter started doing five-on-five work with the rest of his teammates. Although Alvin Gentry downplayed the event by remaining fuzzy on a return date, the general sentiment was the wait wouldn't be too much longer.
If QPon returns tomorrow at the Smoothie King Center, it will be the first time this season the entire roster will be available to play (Evans is expected to play), and Dell Demps' vision is fully realized. It is doubtful Pondexter will replace Alonzo Gee in the starting lineup immediately, but if his knee responds well, it may not be long before the starting lineup gets an injection of more three-point shooting.
A lineup of Tyreke Evans, Eric Gordon, Pondexter, Anthony Davis and Omer Asik spent 346 minutes on the floor together in 2014-15, the Pelicans most oft-used group. They posted an offensive rating of 109.0, a defensive rating of 104.5 and a strong 56.4 TS%.
