Pelicans vs. Wizards: Thursday NBA Summer League Playoffs Open Thread

New, comment

The Summer Pelicans face the Summer Wizards. This game will not be on your television.

Stephen R. Sylvanie-USA TODAY Sports

The New Orleans Pelicans and Washington Wizards will tip off this evening at about 7 p.m. local time. This game will not be on NBATV, which will be showing the Brooklyn Nets take on the San Antonio Spurs and then the Atlanta Hawks playing the Denver Nuggets. So far the NBA Summer League games not on NBATV have been available on Watch ESPN as well as NBA Summer League Live for $5.

The Pelicans will be switching it up, with assistant coach Robert Pack taking over for associate head coach Darren Erman. This plan was already laid out by head coach Alvin Gentry before the Summer Pelicans arrived in Las Vegas.

The Wizards have been paced by first round pick Kelly Oubre, who is averaging 15.3 points while shooting just 33.9% from the field. Other big minute contributors include Scott Machado, Jarrid Famous, and Damion James. Like the Pelicans these three are all international or D-League players in their mid-to-late 20's. The Wizards also play rookie Aaron White out of Iowa a number of minutes. Oubre was selected with the 15th overall pick, White with the 49th.

A lot of professional experience on the court could mean that these teams put on a relatively watchable show tonight. The Wizards started the summer league with three consecutive losses to the Phoenix Suns (86-77), D-League Select (94-74), and Dallas Mavericks (85-79) before pulling off their first win in tournament play against the Utah Jazz (86-78).

Who will you be watching closely? Can Seth Curry or Larry Drew II earn themselves a training camp invite or possibly even a contract in the coming days? Let's hear it in the comments.
