New Orleans Pelicans top five stories this week

The coaching search kicked into high gear this week. Or at least the agents started leaking stuff.

Brace Hemmelgarn-USA TODAY Sports

1. The New Orleans Pelicans, led by GM Dell Demps, interviewed Jeff Van Gundy in the Bay Area on Tuesday evening according to Yahoo! Sports. Van Gundy, formerly coach of the New York Knicks and Houston Rockets, has remained mum on the subject.

2. After the relative quiet of just Alvin Gentry from last Monday, that began a (relative) firestorm of coaching search leaks. On Wednesday ESPN's Marc Stein revealed that Scott Skiles had also been interviewed. Skiles connection to New Orleans? He coached Dell Demps in Greece in the mid-90's.

3. Not to be outdone, Adrian Wojnarowski, who had reported both the Gentry and Van Gundy news, brought a new name into the fold on Thursday evening. The newest candidate? None other than former Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Clippers head coach Vinny Del Negro.

4. The topic of former Chicago Bulls coaches continues to pervade the Pelicans search. Next up? Recently fired head coach Tom Thibodeau. Thibodeau has been linked to the vacancy since Monty Williams was fired and his connection to Anthony Davis through Team USA weighs heavily on most reports.

5. In the midst of the coaching search Demps must conjure a summer league roster. Royce White, the 16th pick in the 2012 NBA Draft (headlined by Anthony Davis), is seeking a comeback into the league. His favorites at this point are reportedly the Chicago Bulls and the New Orleans Pelicans. Could this have anything to do with Fred Hoiberg? Of course!
