Stop me if you've heard the before. The New Orleans Pelicans are done. They face a schedule far too difficult against opponents with better players and better coaches. Even the home crowd tonight is not going to be enough to stop a juggernaut Golden State Warriors team from trampling on the Pels' hopes and dreams.
Did I just write the preview to game four tonight or game 82 ten short days ago? I can't remember. Once again the Pelicans are underdogs in the Smoothie King Center. On April 15th the San Antonio Spurs were favored to win by about five points. Tonight the Warriors are favored by six and a half. Sounds like time for Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans, and company to pack it up then, huh? No way do they recover from that devastating loss on Thursday?
I think the Pelicans are going to come out playing well. Their backs against the wall of a season about to come to a close has been the theme since January. Writing off the Pelicans is practically a weekly exercise for local sports writers. Anything for them to finally move on to covering the Saints 24/7 like they would prefer.
Saints season is coming for them soon enough. Until at least Tuesday they will have to continue to endure their NBA franchise that actually made the playoffs this season.
Geaux Pelicans. Survive another day.
