Pelicans handle the Timberwolves

With New Orleans season up for grabs and it wasn't pretty for significant stretches, the Pelicans took care of business tonight against a wounded Minnesota squad.

Bruce Kluckhohn-USA TODAY Sports

It took the Pelicans awhile to find any semblance of a groove, but when they did in the 2nd quarter, the game kind of shifted into cruise control. New Orleans never did anything too special; they just maintained a double digit lead throughout the rest of the game. However, because the lead was just 12 midway through the 4th quarter, Monty decided to go with the starting lineup to finish the game.

Good move.

Only three Pelicans finished in double figures: Anthony Davis, Tyreke Evans and Eric Gordon. Jrue Holiday was held out for precautionary reasons and Ryan Anderson was sadly missing in action again. Joining him was Quincy Pondexter (0-5 from the floor!) and Alexis Ajinca.

A win's a win though at this stage of the season. With the Thunder beating a severely hampered Blazers roster and the Rockets winning in Charlotte, this coming Wednesday is going to probably be a BIG showdown. New Orleans will be fighting like hell to make the postseason while San Antonio will most likely be looking to secure a #2 seed in the Western Conference.

Stay tuned for the full recap coming up a short while later.
