New Orleans Pelicans steady in final edition of NBA power rankings

2-2 on the week as the Pelicans defended their home floor but could not win outside the Crescent City. Playoff destiny, thanks to Thunder opponents, remains in hand.

The Pelicans missed a big chance to take a full-game lead on the Thunder on Sunday, but Anthony Davis is still close to making his playoff debut. It's still hard to grasp that a Hail Mary three from Davis could be the shot that sends New Orleans to the postseason.

(Any excuse to post that shot will be taken).

The Pelicans have lost three straight on the road, but get to play their last road game against a team that's on a 10-game losing streak. The Thunder play their last road game against the same team, so eighth in the West will come down to games against the Spurs and Blazers (and maybe that crazy Anthony Davis game-winner from back in February).

Are things actually breaking in the Pels' favor? Maybe not after Russell Westbrook saw a tech rescinded for the second time in seven games. The numberFire guys nonetheless seem convinced, suddenly listing The Brow's team at 65.35 percent to make the playoffs compared to OKC's 34.65 percent.

The door is wide open for Anthony Davis and the Pelicans. With two very winnable games remaining—at Minnesota and hosting San Antonio in the regular-season finale (a prime opportunity for DNP-POP)—all New Orleans has to do is remain tied with the Thunder or do better to make the postseason.

The playoff hopeful Pelicans own the tiebreaker over the Thunder and finish the regular-season at Minnesota and against the visiting Spurs.

I don't know how the next two games will play out for the Pelicans or Thunder. But I do know that if we don't see him there this weekend, we'll be seeing Anthony Davis in the playoffs very soon.

News of Note

The technical foul called on Russell Westbrook has been rescinded; he will play tonight as the Oklahoma City Thunder take on the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland will be without LaMarcus Aldridge, who joins a growing number of injured Blazers in street clothes.
