While the Pelicans are coming off their best performance of the season, the Mavericks likely suffered their worst defeat on Thursday night to the Hornets. Charlotte scored a total of 108 points, a number they only matched or surpassed just 10 times from last season's 82 game schedule.
Similar to Jrue Holiday, the Mavericks are carefully monitoring the minutes of Chandler Parsons. After not playing in the first half against the Hornets, he spent 14 minutes on the floor after halftime. At the time, Dallas was down by a single point, but instead of providing a boon, Parsons' presence muddled the picture. As the Pelicans have learned, inconsistent minutes by key players can lead to wild results.
The biggest takeaway from their Thursday matchup should be that Al Jefferson absolutely terrorized the Mavericks on the inside, scoring 31 points (15-18 FG's) and grabbing 9 rebounds in a mere 27 minutes!
Expect the Pelicans to experiment with a larger lineup and make use of Alexis Ajinca. Although he may not start the game, Ajinca and Davis should be able to find a good deal of success in and around the paint area.
