New Orleans Pelicans vs Atlanta Hawks Game Thread

New, comments
Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

After an opening night loss to the Detroit Pistons, the Atlanta Hawks have won five straight games, all coming against the Eastern Conference.

Early in the preseason, the Hawks bested the Pelicans, 103-93. Atlanta outscored New Orleans by 17 points in the 2nd half, but the result mattered little due to the number of unguaranteed contracts seeing time against the more established Hawks' bench.

Atlanta lost Demarre Carroll during the off-season, but they haven't skipped a beat. Al Horford and Jeff Teague have started the season well, while Kent Bazemore and Dennis Schroder have filled in admirably. This has been especially helpful with Kyle Korver getting off to a slow start. Through four games, he has connected on just 25% of his three-point attempts.

The Pelicans have listed Omer Asik as the starter for tonight, yet he remains questionable. Don't expect for the Pelicans to play either Asik or Ajinca a full accompaniment of minutes, though, as Alvin Gentry is keen on keeping the floor spaced for Anthony Davis with Ryan Anderson floating on the perimeter. Amid the multitude of problems, the team is desperate to get their superstar off to a quicker start and not fall behind by double digits to yet another opponent during the first half.
