Last night the Pelicans finally gave their fans something they've been awaiting since last April. Wins are fun, but the team had no time to celebrate as they had to fly to Atlanta to get ready to face the Hawks on a second night of a back-to-back. Notching another victory within the span of 24 hours will be a tall order, though, as New Orleans could be missing several key components from their win against the Dallas Mavericks.
Both Anthony Davis and Jrue Holiday were listed as questionable earlier in the day by the Pelicans PR department. Although Davis reportedly flew with the team to Atlanta, the general sentiment is that he'll miss the contest. He left last night's game after sustaining a hip contusion in the first half, supposedly taking a hard knee from one of the Mavericks.
Meanwhile, Holiday has been restricted from playing in back-to-backs so far this season. However, there might be a chance the Pelicans change their tune as he appeared in a mere 15 minutes against the Mavericks, the lowest number of the season.
If either player is unavailable, look for Ryan Anderson to replace Davis and Ish Smith to step in for Holiday. A thin bench will obviously be thinner, but one positive is that Omer Asik should be good to go.
