Some New Orleans Pelicans hope to spoil the championship celebration of the Golden State Warriors tonight. Tyreke Evans, Norris Cole, Quincy Pondexter, and Omer Asik are out on the injury report. Jrue Holiday is on a minutes restriction that could extend up to 20 minutes. Luke Babbitt and Alexis Ajinca may also be limited. Beyond that extensive list everyone (a total of nine players for those keeping track) should be 100%.
The Warriors will be much closer to full strength but without head coach Steve Kerr who is still recovering from back surgery. In his place is interim head coach Luke Walton. Yes, that Luke Walton. Am I the only one surprised that Ron Adams was not given the reigns to the team until Kerr came back?
Anthony Davis is bigger and stronger than he was the last time these two teams met. He is also shooting 3-pointers in Alvin Gentry's new offensive system. Is he strong enough to carry this roster to a victory against the defending champions in the raucous Oracle Center? That task is quite simply Herculean.
It is no wonder the Warriors are favored by 9.5 points. To compare, the Warriors were favored by 12.5 in game one and 13 in game two in Oracle Arena during the playoffs. The Pelicans covered both times.
