Game Preview: Pelicans at Bucks

New, comments
Ken Blaze-USA TODAY Sports

Losers of their first two games of the current roadtrip, the Pelicans will attempt to right the ship against the hapless Bucks. The worst team in basketball (9-42) has really been stinking up the joint in 2014. Since the start of the year, Milwaukee has managed to win only 2 games out of 20!

Although they've been beset by injury, the Bucks are a poorly constructed basketball team. Ersan Ilyasova and O.J. Mayo have flopped, Larry Sanders has been a mess both on and off the court and Brandon Knight is their leading scorer. Scary, huh?

Well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist (say Rohan) to figure out a solid game by the good guys nets a win, but we'll stress three key points anyways:

  • Nothing Easy. The Bucks are second to last in offensive rating and do nothing well in any area - FG%, 3FG% and points in the paint. The Pels just need to be mindful of not giving up too many transition points, open shots from the perimeter and second chance points.
  • Focus on Offensive Execution. The Bucks defense is about as bad as their offense. Consequently, the Pelicans need to take advantage of their offensive proficiency and just pile on the points. Considering Larry Sanders and John Henson will be out, Monty Williams should consider going small more than usual.
  • Force Turnovers. The Bucks turn the ball over at one of the highest rates in the league, 16.2% of the time. It'll be interesting to see if our defensive strategies remain and whether they're effective. If the Bucks are able to pick apart our PnR defense, I vouch all The Bird Writes members sign a petition to prevent Monty from being able to employ an aggressive hedge and recover strategy for the rest of the season.
Geaux Pels!
