Friday Pelicans News

News and links about the Pelicans from around the internet.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

It's been a light news week for the Pelicans so far - pretty much the only information coming out is the news about Team USA and draft workouts. To the Team USA news!

  • Bradley Handwerger at WWL TV has a brief opinion piece explaining the importance of the selection of Monty Williams as an assistant coach for Team USA. His opinion that this is the best news for New Orleans since the draft lottery win is a bit of a stretch, I think. But nonetheless, it's quite a vote of confidence for Monty Williams - being included with Thibodeau, Boeheim, and Krzyzewski is a high honor and a great opportunity for Monty.
  • Nola.com reports that Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson are confirmed attendees to Team USA's mini-camp. The best line from Monty was regarding Anthony Davis: "I'm pretty sure he's thinking he can get away from me."
  • Draft workouts are today! Point guards Trey Burke and Michael Carter-Williams and center Alex Len are all in New Orleans to be evaluated by Monty and Dell. I haven't seen the names of any other players that might come in for workouts, but I'd be shocked if the Pelicans didn't work out a small forward or two.
  • Finally, in Ohio, Pelicans made a surprise visit to Charles Mill Lake.
