Monty Williams to Join Team USA as Assistant Coach

New, comments

Pelicans Head Coach Monty Williams will join Coach K's Team USA staff this summer as an assistant coach.

David Richard-US PRESSWIRE

Good news out of the Pelicans (first time I am typing that!) camp today as USA Basketball Chairman Jerry Colangelo has announced that Head Coach Monty Williams will join Mike Krzyzewski’s staff as an assistant coach. Monty Williams and Bulls Head Coach Tom Thibodeau will replace Nate McMillan and Mike D'Antoni, who had worked on Coach K's staff since 2005. It certainly speaks to Monty's reputation around the League that he was selected for this position. The experience will almost certainly yield results for the Pelicans' young coach, and he has already stated he looks forward to learning from Coach K as well as Thibodeau. Monty's inclusion has the added benefit of him being able to continue to work with Anthony Davis and Ryan Anderson, as both are slated to join the Team USA mini camp this July in Las Vegas. Davis will be trying to keep the roster spot he earned due to injuries in 2012. Congrats to Coach Williams on a big honor, and we will certainly be keeping an eye on Team USA news from here on out.
