Austin Rivers Breaks Hand, Expected to Miss 4-6 Weeks

Chris Humphreys-USA TODAY Sports

Per the Hornets' Jim Eichenhofer:

Rivers had 10 points on 5 of 6 shooting without a turnover in 15 minutes of play against the Los Angeles Lakers last night before the injury. With the Hornets sputtering down the stretch and Rivers showing /some/ signs of improvement at last, the timing on this is pretty horrible.

New Orleans' final game of the 2013 season is May 17th at Dallas. 6 weeks from last night also happens to be May 17th. A hand injury typically isn't one where a team might hold out an "almost recovered" player to prevent longer term damage, so I suppose it's possible we could see Rivers again this year.

There's also a chance his rookie season -- one of the worst ever, per the realist, one containing some tiny but discernible upward trajectory, per the optimist -- is now over.

UPDATE: Hornets have signed Terrel Harris to a 10 day contract:

Harris, an Oklahoma State product, appeared in seven regular season games with the Miami Heat this season before being waived on January 5th, 2013. Harris was re-signed this last offseason as a free agent by the Heat on September 10th, 2012. In his seven games this season, Harris averaged 1.4 points and 1.3 rebounds in 4.1 minutes.

The 6’4” guard is in his second NBA season and originally went undrafted in the 2009 NBA Draft. A Texas native, Harris originally signed with the Heat on December 10, 2011.

Prior to his signing with the Heat before the 2010-11 season, Harris spent professional stints with Strasbourg IG of the France ProA League as well as the Maine Red Claws and Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League.
