To further continue the busy off season for the NBA, the Hornets have announced today that they have signed guard Brian Roberts. Brian Roberts was not drafted in the 2008 NBA Draft following four years at Dayton University and has since played internationally, most recently playing for Brose Baskets Bamberg in Germany; even winning the German National Championship. As most will remember, the 6'1", 173 pound Roberts played with the Hornets' summer league team. He managed to play well once Austin Rivers went down with injury and Roberts started the final three games.
It's unclear if Roberts' deal has any guaranteed money for this season but I will note that the Hornets announced that the move "solidifies" the back court. Here's the announcement from the team's website:
The New Orleans Hornets announced today that they have signed guard Brian Roberts. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
Roberts, who played in all five Summer League games for the Hornets (three starts) averaged 13.8 points, 2.2 assists and 2.0 rebounds in 27.4 minutes per game while shooting 50.0% from the field, 54.5% from three-point range and 93.8% from the line. The 6’1’’ Toledo, OH native played for Brose Baskets Bamberg in Germany last season, leading the team to the German National Championship. The Dayton alum also won the German League title with Bamberg in 2009-10 and 2010-11.
Roberts will wear #22 for New Orleans.
