At the Hive Fantasy Basketball League

By now, I'm sure you've seen a number of SBNBA blogs with their own fantasy basketball leagues at a new site called paspn.net.

Generally, I don't play fantasy basketball mostly because I suck at it. Even though the NBA is the sport I most closely follow, I love fantasy baseball because following the minor leagues closely allows you to recover from most serious injuries. Not so with the NBA. But Paspn.net's league is completely unique in the way it works. Basically, each "manager" becomes a GM of an existing NBA team. The team's roster is as it is now, and the GM is responsible for all roster transactions, and is bound by salary cap rules and conventions. Additionally, managers can also play as "player agents"... so basically, you could negotiate LeBron James' or Chris Paul's next contract with any given GM in the league.

The good fellows at the site extended an invitation to us to create an At the Hive League, which sounds like it could be really fun. If you head on over to this page: http://paspn.net/default.asp?p=90&gmaction=34&leagueid=6105&seasonid=53 , the first 30 people can register as GM's. After that, it's on to agents.

The league "starts" tomorrow, when we can all choose our teams. Scoring will function similar to pre-existing head-to-head fantasy leagues in that each team will play another for one week. Each team gets to start 8 players (PG, SG, SF, PF, C, UTIL, UTIL, UTIL) and the leader of the following formula- ((PTS + TRB + AST + STL + BLK) - ((FGA - FGM) + (FTA - FTM) + TOV ))- is determined to be the winner.

Overall, the whole deal looks like a refreshing spin on fantasy sports, and I encourage you all to join at the link above.
