Please be lenient. I am asking for a bit of indulgence to assuage my curiosity.
I am a Magic fan and have become a disimpassioned follower of New Orleans ever since they got my boy Ryan Anderson. I'm more than a bit interested in the Pelicans' creative roster moves so far this offseason. With Lopez gone and Stiemsma, Withey, and Smith, the only centers on the roster, I assume you guys need some help down low. Since these sbnation blogs seem to follow their teams' pretty tightly and mostly intelligently; I figured I'd gauge the room and see who Pelicans fans would like to bring in. I've attached a poll with a few options. Please vote for whichever center you would prefer and think the Pelicans have a reasonable chance of signing for the right price. i.e. if you want Asik but you think the price would be too high, as in Ryan Anderson, don't vote for Asik.
Here is a list of plausible prospective centers with brief descriptions.
- Omer Asik -- He rebounds well sets screens and plays smart defense. His offensive skills are limited, but he's alright in the pick and roll when he can get to the rim and dunk. He is an obvious redundancy in Houston and not happy with the Rockets . Some of my Bulls friends used to call him "Turkish Delight."
- Marcin Gortat -- A.K.A. the Polish Hammer. There have been rumblings that the Suns see him as a valuable trade asset. He was once described somewhere on this site as the Applebee's of centers, he does everything adequately, but nothing exceptionally well.
- Greg Oden -- cause, why not? A rumor has him at a 3 million dollar price tag.
- Marcus Camby -- The Raptors might buy him out. He should be a veteran defensive presence on a young team.
