Bird Feed: Anthony Davis's Preseason Grabs Attention

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

First, I've been looking for something to indicate a link post other than just putting "and other news" at the end. So I'm calling it "Bird Feed" for now - suggestions welcome.

Anthony Davis's solid preseason start has garnered some national attention. Henry Abbott points out that Davis has been more effective offensively in the first couple of games even without having his jump shot fall. And Kurt Helin points out that this has been due to Davis's ability to drive into the paint and score - all of Davis's made field goals have come inside the paint.

The Advocate and NOLA both have game recaps up. The Advocate had some good detail on Davis's knee injury, which happened when he got collided with Austin Rivers going for a rebound:

Williams said Davis was fine, though the former Kentucky star spent an extended time after the game in the training room and was not available to reporters.

NOLA also has a great profile of Arinze Onuaku, who spent four years at Syracuse and then two years in the D-League. I've been really impressed by his motor and athleticism so far in preseason, and he looks like the guy who might be this year's Brian Roberts - I wouldn't be surprised if he gets a year-long contract from Demps.

Jimmy Smith's impressions of the Mavericks game were pretty similar to ours - Davis was great and the defense was improved. He led with a really odd quote from Monty Williams:

New Orleans Pelicans coach Monty Williams says he has retired as Anthony Davis' on and off-court protector. From now on, Williams said, Davis will be on his own, expected to carry a huge burden this year for the Pelicans.

I'm not sure what that means, honestly.
