On Monday, Brian charted some offensive statistics New Orleans players posted in 2012-2013. The bottom line there was that three players -- Ryan Anderson through his shooting, Robin Lopez through his offensive rebounding, and Anthony Davis through being an extraterrestrial -- were responsible for the vast, vast majority of positive offensive contributions a year ago.
New Orleans lagged defensively, of course, finishing 28th in the league at 109.4 points allowed per 100 defensive possessions. At the Times-Picayune today, Nakai Hogan writes that defense has been a focus over the first three days of training camp:
"That's about all we have done," Pelicans center Greg Stiemsma said. "Even our offensive stuff we are preaching about defensive reads and the defensive principles that we are always going to go back to. It's been defense from the start, and everything else is just secondary."
The replacement of Greivis Vasquez with Jrue Holiday and the addition of defensive positives in Greg Stiemsma and Jeff Withey should hopefully augment the system changes Williams implements over the next month.
