The Hornets just announced that they have reached an agreement on a multi-year contract extension with GM Dell Demps. This, combined with Monty Williams' extension signed earlier this year, solidifies the brain trust that will lead this young Hornets team into the future. These moves were hinted at when Tom Benson purchased the team, and were confirmed today with quotes from Mickey Loomis, who said that he and Benson ''couldn't be more impressed'' with the way the team is headed.
Both Williams and Demps are well-respected throughout the league and both would have drawn considerable interest if their contracts were allowed to approach their conclusions. These extensions give the Hornets a young, effective head coach/GM duo that will complete the rebuilding of the franchise that they started with the trade of Chris Paul. Hornets fans can also look forward to a few years of consistency after the constant turmoil that occurred in the last few years of the Chris Paul era. Congrats to Dell Demps and the Hornets on this well-deserved deal.
